I don't understand this myself, but I agree that he should've listened to his assistants that actually know this shit. But the tariffs can't be that bad, when tiktokers consooms en masse anyway. To me, it seems like they're seething because they can't consoom as much. Ignoring the fact that most have big debt, but no one is forcing them into buying stuff you don't need. If they focused on only buying food and other stuff needed to live, the debt would go flying away. Of course not take away.
Trump called off the China tariffs after he claimed he'd never budge. He did this before warehouses emptied out. That's why people call him TACO. Trump Always Chickens Out. Now there's still a lot of consequences for what he did. There will be temporary shortages on some products because a lot of stuff didn't ship when the tariffs were in force. There's a delay because boats from China move slowly. There will be some products you can't buy anymore unless you import it yourself because companies can't afford the financial losses that the tariffs would bring. You can't sell the "cheap model" at a profit when the tariffs go from nothing to 145% so there will be things you simply can't get until companies have confidence or Trump leaves. Other products will go up in price and stay there while companies use tariffs as an excuse (same as what they did with COVID-19) and we lose because we still need to buy shit.
A judge has ruled that the tariffs were illegal and that the government needs to pay them back. His entire economic policy is based on the government collecting $$$$$$$ in tariffs. It was never going to work, but now the government gets to put the debt on their credit card (the national debt) and try to downplay it while vilifying anyone who points this out.
Speaking of, what some people do with their credit cards is less relevant, but still worth talking about. Their reckless spending, no different than what the government is trying to do, will bite them in the ass later on when they can't pay the debt. Some of these people will get their shit together, some will weasel out of it. Others will become burdens on society. Shit ain't getting better any time soon.
There are millions of people who can't afford any rise in prices. People have to buy things like food, electricity, gas, clothing, cell phone (the cheap ones they can afford aren't going to be sold anymore), transportation, not to mention paying rent which is also going up. Some of these people blow what little extra they have on shit they don't need, because not having any needless spending is bad for you mentally, while others count pennies just to pay for food.
Everybody making less than a quarter million per year is going down in financial status, regardless of what they do. A bunch of rich people already made out like bandits, and they're hungry for more.
All this while Trump continues to sell a fever dream of bringing back manufacturing and "clean beautiful coal". He's good at lying to stupid people, I'll give him that.
